Food is thy medicine?

Is food nourishment itself or do we need a little help from supplements?

Let’s talk about supplements

It can be controversial, contradicting, and overwhelming. Our modern food has fewer quality nutrients than ever. From National Geographic, “Even for people who avoid processed foods and prioritize fresh produce, this trend means that “what our grandparents ate was healthier than what we’re eating today,” says Kristie Ebi, an expert in climate change and health at the University of Washington in Seattle.

Quality food comes from quality soil. Mass farming decreases soil quality. Local farms that use Regenerative Agriculture practices usually focus on four pillars: farmer welfare, animal welfare, quality soil, and organic produce. You can find one near you here.

A solution to help our body get the proper nutrients we need, supplements are a great way to add what our food is missing. While everyone may require different supplements, I wanted to share what I have been taking since the start of 2023 to look and feel my best:

  1. Magnesium Malate - There are over 8 types of magnesium. I like to take this supplement to aid with digestion and help with energy and anxiety. I trust this brand Design for Health that I get at my local alkaline water shop, Ecowater House in Dana Point, CA. They also make a great powder blend I take at night called Tri-Blend for good sleep.

  2. Organ Synergy - I have replaced my multivitamin with this organ supplement. This is a great source of Vitamin A for healthy hair and skin. Be mindful when taking as too much Vitamin A can be toxic if taken in high doses.

  3. Fish Oil - Fish Oil is a great go-to for clear skin since it is anti-inflammatory and anti-aging properties

  4. Essential Skin Food - About 5 years ago, I complimented my co-worker’s skin. She swore by Fish Oil and L-Lysine, which stimulated collagen production. Since then, I have been incorporating both supplements into my daily routine. I love Activated You products, and they kindly send me their new Essential Skin Food supplement I have been taking for the last month. It includes L-Lysine and Vitamin C, to help fight free radicals which lead to signs of aging.
